“It was me”

“And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years, but no one could heal her. She came up behind him and touched the edge of his cloak, and immediately her bleeding stopped. “Who touched me?” Jesus asked. When they all denied it, Peter said, “Master, the people are crowding and pressing against you.” But Jesus said, “Someone touched me; I know that power has gone out from me.” Then the woman, seeing that she could not go unnoticed, came trembling and fell at his feet. In the presence of all the people, she told why she had touched him and how she had been instantly healed. Then he said to her, “Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace.””

‭‭Luke‬ ‭8:43-48‬ ‭NIV‬‬

As a follower of Jesus, I believe that He is God. Therefore He knows all things. So, surely He knew who touched Him, who He had healed, who He had chosen to heal. The women who He had sparked life in in her mothers’ womb. He knew. Just like He knows me. Just like He knows you.

Why then, did He ask? Why then did He insist that she come forward?

What deeper healing in addition to her haemorrhage was He speaking into being?

Holy Spirit give us wisdom.

Sidelined, pushed out, cast out, she had for twelve years been ‘unclean’ and unhealable.

Now her body was healed, but what was the effect of twelve years of being an outcast on her identity and her heart? In calling her forth, in insisting that she present herself to Him publicly, He restored her place and identity. What God speaks into being is always true and always long last.

Now she is defined no longer by her blood, but His. No longer her plight, but faith in Him. No longer the anxiety, pain and frustration of sickness, but peace.

And the same invitation is open to us today. All we need to is approach Him and believe.
